Not That Far Away Reviews

CMN Blog

Jennette McCurdy may not be a name you’re familiar with, but ask your daughters who Sam Puckett is and just watch their eyes light up! That’s because Sam Puckett is the character Jennette plays on the hit Nickelodeon show iCarly.

Make no mistake though, Jennette is not suffering a bad-wig-induced identity crisis nor a coming-of-age breakthrough. She’s simply a talented, well-rounded girl with a knack for comedy, and a stellar voice. Not just stellar… phenomenal! Unlike other current pop stars, her live performances add to the rich, developed, controlled, and all-around quality her voice carries. Take a listen to the clip below and tell me Taylor could pull that off! Then, when you hear that I’m right, hop over to http://www.jennettemccurdy.com and buy her debut EP. Heck, buy 2 copies! One for you and one to replace your daughter’s copy of Fearless!

JYSK

For the past three years, Jennette McCurdy has been acting alongside Miranda Cosgrove as Carly Shay’s best friend, Sam. Now, following in the footsteps of her Nickelodeon co-star, the California native has released her first EP ‘Not That Far Away,’ which showcases Jennette’s passion for country music.

When so many of Jennette’s peers are going the pop route, some may wonder why the 18-year-old is drawn to country. For her, it’s simple. “It’s always been my favorite,” she explains. “I found that I could relate to it more than any other genre and I felt like it was so honest. It told stories like nothing else and it spilled everything right out on the table.”

She adds: “There’s hardly a country song that plays that doesn’t make you smile and want to dance or want to make you have a tear trickling down your cheek, so for country music to evoke those kinds of emotions, I guess that’s what drew me towards it.”

Super fans of the 18-year-old singer/actress have already heard most of the songs on her EP as they were released earlier this year as a part of a campaign where fans could vote for Jennette’s first single. But in the end, ‘Not That Far Away,’ a song about growing up and moving on, was the overwhelming favorite and got the full video treatment from the iCarly star.
Watch the entire ‘Not That Far Away’ video below and score Jennette’s debut EP on iTunes now. What do you think of JM’s country tunes? Is there room for another star in the genre? Let us know your thoughts in the comments.

The Boot

She’s already a huge TV star, thanks to her role on Nickelodeon’s hit series, ‘iCarly,’ and now Jennette McCurdy is also well on her way to being a country star. The 18-year old released her first country music project, an EP titled ‘Not That Far Away,’ this week and now she’s ready to take the music world by storm.

“I really wanted to just be honest to myself, stay true to myself with every song and deliver a CD that I felt reflected who I am as a person and tell the stories of my life because I feel that that’s what people will relate to the most,” says Jennette. “Country music strikes a chord in peoples hearts that makes you think, ‘Wow! I know exactly what they’re talking about. I felt that before.’ I wanted people to be able to feel the same thing and I felt that could only be accomplished if I really wrote what I knew.”

With a huge fan base of teens and tweens, country may seem an unconventional choice for the young star, but Jennette says it was the only choice for her. “It’s always been my favorite,” she says. “I found that I could relate to it more than any other genre and I felt like it was so honest. It told stories like nothing else and it spilled everything right out on the table. There’s hardly a country song that plays that doesn’t make you smile and want to dance or want to make you have a tear trickling down your cheek, so for country music to evoke those kinds of emotions, I guess that’s what drew me towards it.”

The title track of the EP, which is also her debut single, was chosen by more than 75,000 votes from Boot readers, and is, according to the young star, the perfect launching pad for her career.

“This song really captures the last year of my life,” Jennette explains. “I’ve been in Nashville writing for and recording my record and following my dream while really missing my family and friends back in Garden Grove, California.”
